Biography

Mariana Sierra was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Her history as an educator varies across a wide range of subjects and levels, from elementary school art, to middle school ESL, to college creative writing. For the 2023-2024 school year she is teaching AP English Language, AP English Literature, and Creative Writing. She serves as advisor to A.C.E. (Acceptance, Compassion, Empowerment).
 
Mariana earned a B.A. in education from the University of Puerto Rico, an M.A. in English from Monmouth University, and an M.F.A. in English from Virginia Tech, where she also taught first-year composition and introduction to creative writing. Her work has appeared in Feminist Studies, The Acentos Review, WomenArts Quarterly and elsewhere. Her most recent publication is included in the Everyman's Library anthology Border Lines: Poems of Migration.
