Trinity Hall Spirit Comes to Life During Battle of the Classes

The hallways of Trinity Hall were vibrant with color, competition and community during its third annual Battle of the Classes, held the week of April 7. The spirit week tradition once again brought together students and faculty for a fun-filled competitive week of themed dress, hallway decorating, games, and unforgettable memories.

On Monday, the school transformed into a celebration of holidays, with each grade decked out to represent a different occasion. Freshmen embraced the love of Valentine’s Day, sophomores jingled through the halls in Christmas gear, juniors went green for Saint Patrick’s Day and seniors lit up the day in patriotic Fourth of July attire.

The hallway decorating contest also took place on this day, while students put their best effort into adding class spirit with balloons, streamers, lights and more. Sarina DeRosa ‘28, who was taking part in her first ever Trinity Hall Battle of the classes shared, “This is such a fun week-long event that truly brings the whole school together. It shows the community of Trinity Hall and how spirited we all are. Seeing my classmates participate this week was great, as we all came together to work with each other. Personally, my favorite event was hallway decorating. It kicked off the week and made the hallways feel so festive.”

By the end of the day on Monday, the seniors were recognized for best holiday costume collaboration, while the juniors took home the prize for best hallway design. The competition standings by the end of the day were: seniors with 6 points, juniors with 14, sophomores with 8, and freshmen with 10.

Tuesday brought a wave of color and creativity as students sported accessories in their class colors. Freshmen stood out by showing up in their eye-catching purple wigs. The highlight of the day was the pie-eating contest, where students and faculty competed side by side. Faculty participants Mr. Santos, Mrs. Madriz, Ms. Crilly and Mrs. Pagan each represented a class. By day’s end, the scoreboard showed a dramatic change in scores: The freshmen jumped to 28 points, sophomores to 30, juniors to 35 and seniors surged to 50.

Trinity Hall spirit reached new heights on Wednesday as sophomores and seniors joined forces in wearing orange, while freshmen and juniors united in blue. Everyone came together in front of the school building to watch the competitive and exciting annual dodgeball event. In intense matches, the seniors triumphed over the sophomores and the juniors overcame the freshmen in the first round. The championship game saw the juniors defeat the seniors in an epic showdown. At the day’s close, scores stood at 34 for freshmen, 43 for sophomores, 50 for juniors and 60 for seniors.

Thursday brought the closing games. Decked out in their designated colors–purple for freshmen, white for sophomores, pink for juniors and black for seniors–students gathered in the Commons to cheer for their grade in their final attempt to take home a win. The events included musical chairs, hungry hungry hippos, a balloon race, tug of war and a staff hula hoop human link challenge. Banners waved, music played, and chants echoed as each grade gave their all, but in the end, the seniors claimed the coveted Battle of the Classes trophy for 2025, earning Royal Rumble points for the orange team. The final scores were: freshmen at 55 points, sophomores at 79, juniors at 109 and seniors at 116.

Reflecting on the week’s energy, Cindy Sobieski, dean of student life shared, “Battle of the Classes is easily one of my favorite weeks of the year. Watching the girls go all in with their energy, spirit and competitive drive fills me with so much joy. They cheer each other on, lift one another up and truly embody what it means to empower each other—especially as we head into the final stretch before spring break. Moments like these make all the planning and preparation more than worth it. I’m so excited to continue refining our programming alongside the Core Council next year as we keep building and growing together.”

Looking back on her final Trinity Hall Battle of the Classes, senior class president Maxine Camillone echoes Ms. Sobeski’s sentiments as she shares, “I personally love Battle of the Classes. It is a great way to show school spirit and strengthen the sisterhood. Throughout the week, different grade levels are able to represent their class through their designated color and compete with the other grades. This event is special because it truly exemplifies one of Trinity Hall's Core Values, perseverance. Last year, my class was in third place, however, through our perseverance we were able to come out on top, giving my class the motivation to win again this year.”

With memories made and camaraderie at a high point, students proved once again that when it comes to school spirit, Trinity Hall students are in a class of their own. Thank you to the students and staff members who made the week a success. Students, staff, and faculty are already looking forward to next year’s competition!
