All-Girls’ Schools Are AWESOME
I was fortunate enough to attend the International Coalition of Girls’ Schools (ICGS) Conference in Philadelphia last week. What an incredible opportunity to meet and learn from educators from all-girls’ schools around the world. I came away from this conference inspired and energized with a deeper understanding of why girls’ schools are so important and feeling blessed to work in a school as awesome as Trinity Hall.
As the Director of Admissions of an all-girls’ school, I could write pages and pages as to why I think girls' schools are so special, especially after spending a week with others who educate and empower girls every day. However, I think it might be better to share some quotes from the ICGS Conference that inspired me.
Ros Curtis from St. Margaret’s, who received the ICGS Founders Award:
- An all girls school is an environment free of gender stereotypes.
- There are so many good schools out there; the challenge is to be a great school.
- We do this work one girl at a time.
Illana Raia, Day 1 keynote speaker:
- For girls, it’s important to not just have a seat at the table, but to rebuild the table.
- Don’t ask what do you want to be, ask who do you want to be.
- Be the girl unafraid to be real!
Molly Green and Mark Hastings from Educational Records Bureau (ERB):
- At ICGS schools, when other schools had learning loss during the pandemic, we had growth and are still growing.
- The superpower of independent schools is the recognition that every student is unique.
Kali Lambrou from Trinity Hall:
- The sky’s the limit for our girls.
To me, these quotes show how all-girls' schools are places where girls can grow free from gender stereotypes, are empowered to lead and define success on their own terms, and receive in-depth personalized support. We emphasize character development, leadership, authenticity and resilience. At schools like Trinity Hall, we aim not just for academic excellence, but for the transformation of each individual girl.
Thank you to everyone I met at ICGS in Philadelphia. I am excited and refreshed for the start the new school year. I can’t wait to meet with all of the potential families who want to find out more about Trinity Hall and to explore why it could be the best high school option for their daughters.
