Over the past couple months, Talk in Unity’s student leaders Guadalupe Cardoso-Amador ‘26 and Jessica Saenz-Jativa ‘27 have been working diligently and collaborating to plan the third annual Cultural Day. On Friday, October 24, their plans came to life in the Commons, making Cultural Day another huge success.
Cultural Day is an exciting day at Trinity Hall that highlights the diversity of cultures that are present in the community as a whole. With a total of 27 tables set up around the Commons, many different countries were represented through creative posters and delicious food. After a gallery walk where students got to visit each country, there were multiple presentations and performances from students sharing their heritage and classes sharing the cultures they study. AP French and the French IV-V classes came together and sang “Les Champs Elysées” by Joe Dassin, and the Trinity Hall Dance Club performed “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” from Lilo and Stitch.
Saenz-Jativa spoke about the planning process, “Ms. Sobieski [Dean for Student Life], Mrs. Madriz [Business Manager and faculty advisor of Talk in Unity], Guadalupe, and I all started the planning process back in mid-July and constantly worked on how to prepare and make everything run smoothly for this amazing event. We had to put a lot of thought on how we could make this event memorable, not only for the audience, but for the participants as well.”
Cardosa-Amador also spoke about the overall purpose of Cultural Day, "This is one of the best days in which we are all able to see the true diversity within our school community. Though to truly make it happen, there is lots of planning to do beforehand! During the summer, we would meet to brainstorm new ideas and continue past ideas for this year's Cultural Day. As we were discussing, we noticed that in the former celebrations the students and tables needed to be more engaged. While the food is delicious, most importantly, this day aims to teach Trinity Hall students and faculty about their peers' culture. This evolved into our passport idea this year!”
The integration of the new passport idea motivated students to visit each table and learn about each country. Not only was Cultural Day the perfect way to end Core Council (COCO) week, but it also allowed for students and faculty members to take a deeper look into the different cultures within Trinity Hall!
