Prior to Thanksgiving break, Trinity Hall hosts the annual flag football tournament, a tradition beloved by both students, faculty and alumnae. This year, the seniors and sophomores represented the blue team while the juniors and freshmen represented the orange team. The tournament takes place at Capelli fields after school. The orange teams battle against one another until there is one victorious orange team, and the blue teams do the same. Finally, for the championship game, the two winning teams go head to head on Trinity Hall’s campus. The winning team earns Royal Rumble points.
This school year, the blue team was victorious in the championship game. Senior Anna Martin elaborated on the importance of the tournament to her saying, “The flag football game is my favorite tradition. I love how it links everyone's shared competitiveness–no matter what sport we play! All friendships were put aside for the sake of competition, but in the end, we all are able to laugh about it and congratulate each other.”
She added, “I think it's an important event in our culture because you play on a team with girls you may not know and create a connection with them. It truly builds such a strong sense of camaraderie, whether that be blue or orange!” The tournament allows Trinity Hall girls to not only get outside and compete, but also to make new friendships, strengthening the sisterhood at Trinity Hall.
The tradition is also an exciting opportunity for the underclassmen, especially the freshmen, who are experiencing it for the first time. Freshman Ryane Greene reflected, “This was such an amazing opportunity to get to know my upperclasswomen and make some new friends! It was so fun coming together to represent the orange team. I am super competitive, and it was so awesome to make it to the flag football final. I love how faculty, students, and alumni cheered on for their teams, making the experience extra special.” The whole Trinity Hall community really comes together for the tournament.
Students created signs and dressed in their team colors to support their fellow classwomen in the championship game, which also doubles as Homecoming for all Trinity Hall alumnae. Highlights included a truck giving out hot cocoa to the fans, and a dance performance during halftime performed by Trinity Hall’s dance team. One of the spectators, current student Audrey Lafferty ‘27, commented, “The flag tournament is so fun and one of my favorite things at Trinity Hall! It is a great way to connect with people you may not have been friends with before. I love the spirit and competitiveness it brings to us. The championship game was such a fun day.”
The flag football tournament is always one that the community looks forward to every year, and even though only one team takes home the trophy, the whole community wins!
