Gliding to Victory: Trinity Hall Ice Hockey Team Defends Their Title as Cohen Cup Champions | Monarch Media

This year has been one of the most successful years in Trinity Hall history for the ice hockey team. On Thursday, February 19, the Trinity Hall ice hockey team officially became back-to-back Cohen Cup champions. In a hard-fought game against Summit at the Codey Arena, the Monarchs were able to defeat their opponents 2-1, defending their title and taking the cup back to Trinity Hall for the second year in a row.

In the first period, the Monarchs were gaining momentum and the energy in the stands was rising. Rosie Spiropoulos ‘27 scored the first goal of the game, leading them with a 1-0 advantage going into the second period of the game. They defended their advantage through the second period, with Katie Cisar ‘26 in net, defending the goal. In the third period, Sydney Sun ‘26 scored the second goal of the game, giving the Trinity Hall Monarchs a 2-0 lead. While Summit was able to score near the end of the last period, it wasn’t enough to catch up to Trinity Hall.

When the final buzzer sounded, the stands erupted, as it was officially announced that the Trinity Hall Monarchs were Cohen Cup champions yet again. This was a testament to all of the hard work by each player and coach on the ice, especially because the team was not expected to win this title. "Winning back-to-back Cohen Cup championships means so much to our program. Many people counted our team out this year due to the players who graduated and transferred, but this year's team had a different idea,” said Head Coach Frankie Francese. “They knew that our success starts with our culture: the way we feel about each other, the way we approach the game, and the way we play for the success of the team and not individual stats.”

For Seniors Sydney Sun and Katie Cisar, winning the cup was an incredible way to finish their careers as players for the team. “It was great to win the cup back to back years, but especially in my senior year. It wasn’t an easy game, but I’m really proud of how we played through it.” shared Cisar. Both seniors also recognized the incredible work put in by every player on the team, with Sun stating, “Winning this cup has been the highlight of my senior year, but even if we didn't win, the team this year has been the best group ever, and I'm so proud of how far everyone has come.”

The team has worked incredibly hard this year and has had a knock out season to show for it, and they are only getting better. As they advance in the State tournament, they continue to show the incredible culture of not only the program, but of Trinity Hall as well. As Francese said, “This team, like the teams that came before them, plays for the love of the game and wins for the love of their school!"
