Biography

Dr. Dorothy Sobieski is excited to join the Trinity Hall community as a music educator, violist, and conductor. Originally from Warsaw, Poland, she began studying violin at the age of seven before turning her focus to viola. She earned a Master of Music with Honors from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, a second Master of Music from Louisiana State University, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Rutgers University.

 

Dr. Sobieski has enjoyed a diverse career as a performer, conductor, and educator in both Europe and the United States. She spent nearly two decades at Ranney School, where she taught music across all three divisions, served as Chair of the Performing Arts Department, and developed and led the school’s all-school orchestra program. She currently serves as Artistic Director of the New Jersey State Youth Orchestra and conductor of its Symphonic Youth Orchestra. At Trinity Hall, she will teach instrumental music and AP Music Theory while helping to develop and expand the school’s instrumental music program and opportunities for students to perform and grow as musicians.

 

When she is not teaching or making music, Dr. Sobieski enjoys reading, gardening, cooking, and baking sourdough bread. She has a particular appreciation for art and enjoys visiting museums, traveling, swimming and snorkeling, playing tennis, and spending time at the beach with her husband and their three daughters. She is especially excited to become part of the Trinity Hall community and to share her love of music with its students.
